Well played, Nate Phelps.

This article that appeared on my newsfeed this morning- Son of a Bigot. I know I’m not the only one here who finds the Westboro Baptist Church vile (seriously, I don’t think that anyone not closely connected to Fred Phelps supports their actions), so it’s good to see something positive coming out of it; the ability of one man to rise above his abusive fundamentalist upbringing.

  1. Hatred in God’s name, yet again. I watched a programme about Fred Phelps and just couldn’t believe how much anger/hatred/abuse just fell from his mouth. He even made the youngest children picket funerals and hold placards.
Good for his son that he got out, I’m not surprised he doesn’t believe in God anymore – with an upbringing like that I guess it was inevitable.

I’m still on a journey to find my way to ANY deity but I’m hoping if I ever get there it will be a kindly God who holds his arms out to everyone – gay/straight, male/female, black/white etc and loves us all equally and without prejudice.

Now that sounds like the God I know (although I’m not to sure about “his” arms).
